अलविदा भारत – 香港你好 (Farewell India – Hello Hong Kong)

After an amazing time in India visiting suppliers, finding inspiration and discovering one of the new world wonders. I had some last minute inspiration on the Dilli Hatt market and from there I went directly to the airport and off to Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is so completely different from India. So organized and so up-to-the-minute with everything from transportation to buildings – in the coolest way. I love the city and the entire clever Chinese wisdom behind it. The Hong Kong Chinese people are so friendly and I always feel very welcome here. In fact I think Hong Kong is one of the easiest cities to be a foreigner in.

But I also learned about this city from the best – Meet Wai my co-designer (or partner in crime) on 2ND DAY. He’s born in Hong Kong and therefore he knows all the fantastic places and where to go here. Besides this he’s an amazing designer with a huge talent and I’m so privileged and happy to work with him.

Wai and I met today when I arrived and we will be visiting our suppliers together. We will mostly be designing 2 ND DAY jeans and knitwear here in Hong Kong.

अलविदा भारत = Farewell from beautiful India.

Last minute inspiration (I only had 1 hour here) at Dilli Haat marked. One of my favorite markets in Dehli.

This huge Delhi market has been deliberately made to feel like a traditional weekly village market, called a haat. Small thatched roof cottages with a village atmosphere give it great ambiance. The market offers an exciting blend of handicrafts from all over India, food, and cultural and music performances. The entry fee is 15 rupees (35 cents). Don’t miss it!

香港你好 = Hello Hong Kong – Asia’s world city and yes – It really is!

This is Wai :-) Co-Designer on 2 ND DAY.

And here we both are on the first night in Hong Kong looking for inspiration in one of many malls with late night opening hours.

Night city lights – Are just so much cooler in H.K. than Denmark.

Instant craziness – Eternal reminiscence

The heat is on. Yesterday we had +48 degrees and even the local’s thinks this is too hot. I was visiting with one of DAY BIRGER ET MIKKELSEN longest running suppliers and it was a very pleasant visit. Afterwards I was planning to go and meet with a new supplier in the afternoon. But this appointment got cancelled and I suddenly had some spare time…So I did something rather crazy..

I decided to book a taxi and go on a 5-hour ride to the city Agra and stay the night. So that I could go and explore Taj Mahal at 5 am this morning.  I never done anything like this on my own before when I have been travelling. I have always been playing it safe – So to me this was quite insane. But I always try to seek possibilities and not limits. Therefore I felt that I had to go.

And it turned out to be the most fantastic experience! So beautiful, so amazing, so unique and so inspiring that words cannot describe it.

I hope some of these pictures can.

Enjoy!

Ticket to heaven…

First glimpse just before sunrise.

Side view.

Trying to pose in the morning light at the famous “Lady Diana bench”.

This is a famous photograph of the late, Diana, Princess of Wales seated in front of the Taj Mahal. She visited the mausoleum in 1992 on an official state visit to India and this was widely interpreted as a statement of her solitude.

Garden view.

At the entrance.

A moment of peace before entering. – I think this picture is so beautiful!

Inside at the tomb (Where it is actually forbidden to take pictures)

Should guilty seek asylum here,
Like one pardoned, he becomes free from sin.
Should a sinner make his way to this mansion,
All his past sins are to be washed away.
The sight of this mansion creates sorrowing sighs;
And the sun and the moon shed tears from their eyes.
In this world this edifice has been made;
To display thereby the creator’s glory.

You can only enter without shoes.

Me, – Bare feet and very happy right outside Taj Mahal.

Travelling in such a high speed…

I spend a lot of my time here in India in traffic. Getting from one visit with a supplier to another. It may sound a bit tiresome to be stocked in traffic and go with different drivers everyday but to me its really not. In fact it’s one of the most immediate ways to get inspiration – Everywhere I look there’s a new scenario of something vibrant, beautiful or really colorful to capture.

I can always find inspiration for new prints, color combinations, patterns, artworks, garment details, draped effects, color scales, fabric mixings, styling, storytelling and collection moods.

All these beautiful people in there very different environments compared to my world is so inspiring to look at. So I promised my self a long time ago that I will never fall a sleep in the Indian traffic. I need to be awake to capture these instant moments with my camera.

The only challenge is that my drivers often drives quite fast and I therefore only have a glimpse of a second to capture the right moment..

Here is some of my pictures from this trip. Some of them I will be using for inspiration and some is just for fun – Mostly to give you an idea of the huge variety there is everywhere you look here.

The heat is on! Man on bicycle protecting himself from the heat by covering his face.

Green and yellow moments in traffic – Mixing green and yellow tones could be cool for a high summer collection!

Blankets in different patterns, qualities and fabrics. – I believe that patterns and color mixing will be a big trend for autumn.

If you look at the light that hits the camels face, body and legs you will find a beautiful color scale of brown and grey tones  - These colors could easily be interpreted into a part of a classic color card for an autumn or winter colection.

Holy cows on the street. I always play a game with myself when I’m driving in traffic: To capture as many pictures of holy cows in the streets as possible. My record so far is 35 in one trip. Still counting!

Transportation in India is unique. So many colors, decorations and different types of vehicles.

Imagine biking with all this bamboo…

I just like the colors in this picture.

 Milk commercial.

Boys on a bench.

Camel says Hi.

Apartments with different windows.

Choose your own direction.

Temple at night or beautiful winter colors?

City posters.

Real beauty can be captured even in the dark..

I am very privileged to stay at one of the most beautiful hotels in India. The Imperial New Delhi (Read its unique story in the link below)

Sadly I don’t have the time to enjoy this beautiful place to its fullest due to the fact that I’m staying here only for work matters.

But to appreciate it and get the most out of my journey I often wander around the hallways and corridors at nighttime when I get back from my supplier visits just to feel and enjoy its spirit.

There’s a feeling of old times and grand luxury all over this residence. In fact I feel a bit like a movie star when I’m here. It has become like a great escape from reality and sort of a second home to me. Hope you like my great escape place too – Even though most of the pictures are captured in the night.

IN(DIA) LOVE

I believe falling in love with a city is just as exciting as falling in love with a person. Your senses become engaged and you simply feel more alive.

The last 2 days I been visiting our suppliers and falling in love with all these beautiful colors, qualities and artworks – So inspiring that all my creative senses immediately comes to live and I have been making more than half of the two collections already.

It’s a little bit overwhelming in such an early stage of my trip because I still have one and a half week of travelling in front of me. But I think its like with love – When you find it you just want more of it.

Hope you also will love some of these new amazing artworks that we will be using for 2 ND DAYs coming collections. Here is a little sneak peak:
